Dr. Merritt is a general adult psychiatrist practicing in Jacksonville, Florida for 32 years. He was on staff at Mayo Clinic Florida from 1987 until 2006, then entered private practice. From 2006 until late 2012, he was on staff at Baptist Medical Center and served for 3 years as Chief of Psychiatry and Psychology.
His interest and practice emphasis has been in consultation-liaison psychiatry, that is evaluating and treating patients with co-morbid medical conditions, in particular neurological diseases. He has been sub-boarded in Geriatric Psychiatry.
Dr. Merritt has served as President of the Florida Psychiatric Society (1999-2000) and in 2002 was nominated and elected to the American College of Psychiatrists. For the past 25 years, he has been recognized in the Top Docs or Best Doctors listings published on an annual basis.
Dr. Merritt is certified by the National Football League as an official psychiatric consultant, providing evaluations and treatment for active players, in particular within the League's ADD/ADHD Therapeutic Use Exemption Program.
